Austin FC passed over an available Generation Adidas player on Tuesday, instead selecting a touted University of Washington center back.

Austin FC used its first pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft to do something it’s never done with a previous first pick — stray from the Generation Adidas ranks. But it did do something it also did the last time it had the No. 5 pick: Used it on a top cornerback prospect, getting Nate Jones from the University of Washington.
